First full-service grocery store to open in downtown St. Paul
Edina, Minn. (April 29, 2014) — Opening May 15, Lunds will be the first full-service grocery store in downtown St. Paul. It’s located on the first level of the Penfield Apartments at Robert and 10th streets.
The grand opening ceremony will begin at 10 a.m. on Thursday, May 15. The grocery store will then officially open at 10:30 a.m.
This new Lunds has everything customers have come to expect from Lunds & Byerlys – extraordinary food, exceptional service and passionate expertise. The 27,000 square-foot store, which will be open seven days a week from 6 a.m. to midnight, features premium choice beef, locally grown and USDA-certified organic produce, a full-service deli, and more. Additional amenities include Caribou Coffee, Bachman’s floral and St. Croix Cleaners dry cleaning.
“There has been a renewed vitality taking place in downtown St. Paul. One thing the community has lacked, until now, is a full-service grocery store. Our store team of nearly 80 employees is eager to provide the community with this much-needed amenity,” said Tres Lund, president and CEO of Lund Food Holdings, Inc. “Whether you live or work in and around the downtown area, we look forward to becoming your new neighbor.”
Whether shopping for the week or making a quick stop on the way home, Lunds Penfield will meet the community’s needs. This includes many prepared options for lunch and dinner with everything from chef-crafted grab-and-go foods and an incredible salad bar to Big Bowl Chinese Express and fresh-rolled sushi from Hissho Sushi. The store also has a café seating area for a dine-in option.
“I am thrilled to welcome Lunds to downtown Saint Paul, as our downtown residents can finally enjoy a quality, full-service grocery store in their neighborhood,” St. Paul Mayor Chris Coleman said. “Lunds’ investment is a crucial one as we continue to see many major exciting milestones across the city this year.”
Lunds Penfield is easily accessible by foot (just a few blocks from the business district), by car (free parking ramp), or by taking the Green Line of the Central Corridor (light rail station one block from our store). The Green Line is scheduled to open June 14.
“I grew up on the East Side of St. Paul and it’s great being part of this vibrant city again,” said Mike MacRae, general manager of Lunds Penfield. “When you’re working in your own community, you can’t help but connect even more with your customers. I’m thrilled to be back in my hometown.”
